What is Spiritual Art?
Spiritual art is everything under spiritualism that can translate to art.
And by spiritualism I mean connecting with whatever it is that allows us to pick up on energies that give us information using extrasensory perception- Source, God, the Divine, Spirit (see previous blog post ‘The Source, the Divine, Spirit, God, And Every Other Name I Don’t Want to Call… IT’).
It can be artwork inspired by being around someone’s presence. It can be artwork inspired by the imagery you recieve when focus your psychic or intuitive receptors on a living person, perhaps the person who has commissioned the work. It can be a portrait, sculpture, carving of whoever you see when doing a mediumship reading. It can stand on it’s own. It can compliment a reading/sitting. It can be about someone’s future. It can be about their past lives. It could be spirit guides.
This is why I don’t want to define things as the end-all-be-all of spiritual art because it really does depend on how you recieve, what you recieve and who it is of that breaks down a possible category that you could fit into…. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, don’t fit yourself into a category or you will do your own talents a disservice.
BUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, for education’s sake, here a few types that you can add to your brain pocket.
But, art is whatever you want it to be and psychic art is just conveying the messages you recieve into an artform.
The simple explanation is it is whatever you make of it as long as it is inspired by your spiritual abilities: psychicly, intuitively or mediumisticly.
But, again, this can be whatever you want it to be.
Spiritual Art Types
Automatic Drawing
Artwork that is physically done by a medium but the medium acts as a conduit of spirit- spirit is in control of the artwork, movements of the hands. Very similar to what is going on with Automatic Writing (see previous blog post ‘Know Your Psychic Types: Automatic Writing’) but, pictorial-based instead of language-based.
Auragraphs
This art form involves present information gathered by the intuition as well as past and future information obtained via psychic impressions.
Now, I divide that up because there is a difference between intuitive and psychic. Psychic has the ability to perceive past and future events and being whereas intuitive or empathic perceptions give impressions of someone’s present state, that is connecting with emotions.
This art form uses a couple of different energy information that includes reading someone’s aura (their energy path in their body, commonly depicted as colors around the body) as well as using imagery and symbols present in the intuitive and psychic process that uses pictorial representations of someone’s life and spiritual path.
Here’s an example of an auragraph I did for my daughter, Vera, which involves a mossy, forest surrounded by past, current and future symbols. How this is interrupted and explained is up to the psychic/medium/intuitive. Auragraphs can also include portraits of relatives who have passed, which may influence information received by the medium or psychic/intuitive.
Here are some links to galleries featuring Auragraphs:

Spirit Portraits
A spirit portrait would simply be conveying the imagery you see when you are serving as a conduit for messaging as a medium - a family member, maybe a spirit guide. I see people who have passed when I do a reading/sitting. It’s these faces that I can visualize, then draw and could pass along to the sitter, perhaps as evidential information. Maybe drawing what you see could help you focus better on the spirit’s messaging. oooOOOooo I gotta try that next time- never thought of that until now.
Spirit can also refer to guides, angels, etc.
Below is a depiction of a spirit I came across the other night that I actually mentioned in my podcast for this week. This image is a younger version of the spirit I picked up on but, still conveys some characteristics of her that could help the sitter understand who I am connecting with and also have something psychical to take with them after the reading is completed.
Here are some galleries for you to look at to see examples of spirit portraits. Please know that I have not personally visited with any of these mediums but wanted to show you what a typical Spirit portrait looks like.

Intuitive Art
Allowing for non-judgemental artwork using multiple layers of paint. No intention when starting, the artwork forms as the piece continues to be made.
Intuitive art is a spiritual, connected art process that allows the art to lead the way as images form through the layers of paint and a variety of other media. Intuitive art is a process of creating art using an inner awareness that is heart centered and does not rely on analysis or head based questions. It is a way of creating that is about connecting into your emotions and responding to what feels right. Intuition is that image of a child reaching for the red crayon rather than the blue without hesitation. There is no reason in the decision but a space inside that guides you to choose this one instead of that.

We’ve Got Some Problems Here
Terminology Used That Could Mean Something Else
Healer Art, Spiritual Art, Third Eye Art, Soul Art: all of these terms I have found to be in line with what I recognize as Spiritual Artforms but, these terms are also used for other subjects including painted portraits of actual healers, spiritual art in the form of religious art, third eye art not utilizing psychic/intuitive abilities but referring to religious symbols of Indian origin and soul art referring to black heritage art.
Terminology That Doesn’t Define Enough Or Defines Incorrectly
I’ve seen psychic art also include spirit portraits. Psychic messaging and medium messaging are different things so psychic art should not include spirit portraits. Also, Spiritual Art itself can be construed as religious.
A Term for Art Based Solely on Receiving, In General
I don’t think there is one. Let’s fix that.
Here’s What I Would Add or Change For Spiritual Art And It’s Subgenres
Clair Art
Remember that I wanted a term for artwork that encompasses all that I receive from messaging, no matter psychicly, mediumistically or intuitively?
Here it is - Clair Art.
That’s how we receive, right? We connect with that world through our clairs. Hence, Clair Art.
This term would encompass Spirit Portraits and anything else that uses your clairs- perhaps, a vision from the future, the bracelet that I was shown during a mediumship sitting or the image of how I see the energy blocked at your 3rd chakra. It’s all information you received using your clairs and that you translate into artwork - visual art, sound art.
Clair Art: Translating what you receive through your clairs (clairaudience, clairvoyance, claircognizance, etc) into artwork. Similar to Auragraph but reduces the aura aspect, which confuses the terminology here. Gives the skill the credit.
This art is useful as evidential material and a way to capture and show what you are seeing in your mind to your client or audience.
Intuitive Energy Art
I can’t use intuitive art, that’s already taken.
But, I see an artform that can emerge from using your intuition in a different way than already discussed.
'Intuitive Art' as a popular term but when I see it in action I see it as an artform that leads itself to a conclusion as opposed to having the conclusion and replicating it on canvas. I think it's a cool concept and would be a great way to get in touch with your intuition and gaining the ability to allow the art to happen allow the inspiration to lead you through the process, which goes along with letting in messaging in your spiritual practicing. I see intuitive art as art influenced by the impressions you receive from somebody else and creating artwork out of that. I see this as an assessment of their current state, or what has led up to their current state- their wellbeing.
This is more concise than an auragraph in that this can be art that is inspired by your intuition on the person you are focusing on and what they present, solely as themselves. You aren’t picking up on past and present, it is what is now. This would be artwork that is inspired by your clairs that empathize with your client. Perhaps you feel a sadness with your client. How did you receive that? How would you convey that in artwork- a color, a symbol, an animal? That’s up to you. But, bottomline- inspired by your client’s present being. Maybe, the client is you.
I think this term fits well because as an intuitive, you are using your skills to receive an impression of somebody else’s energy, energy flow.
With auragraphs there is a future aspect that merges different information types- intuitive and psychic. Intuitive Energy Art would be solely intuitive receivings- what is present now and what led up to this presence.
So, once again, I've created a new term that we’ll call Intuitive Energy Art.
Inspired Spiritual Art
I've also created a category we can call inspired spiritual art. This is artwork that is inspired by your spiritual experiences, like visions your recieve during meditations, the feeling of your spiritual awakening interpretted as artwork, depictions of your dreams. This is artwork that is inspired by your experience not from necessarily direct messaging or impressions.
Just drawing what you see in your minds eye during meditation, a spiritual awakening, dreaming, or just inspired by your feelings can all be the subjects for your artwork.
IndigoSoulWays has a great gallery of the different ways you can be inspired to create art that is more observant than decoding when it comes to recieving messaging or enjoying the body you live in and feelings that you have. This is art anyway, right?
Meditate to orientate and be inspired
Meditation is important to find ‘your baseline’, where you connect to your own physical, mental and spiritual self in order to compare experienced external energy/messages to. Practicing meditation allows for you to explore the psychic world and get to know yourself. This is your journey and this is how you lead your way.
In order to practice Spiritual Art, or Clair Art, you need to develop your baseline and be able to discern what is being received for messaging- intuitively, psychicly or mediumistically.
For more information on meditation, check out my blog post ‘Meditation Basics for Psychic Beginners’ and try out these videos so you can sit back and find your baseline.
Discovering Your Clairs
If you are not familiar with the clairs then you may not be able to identify how you psychicly receive. It is important to get to know them so you can get a clearer understanding of your own psychic abilities and the tools that you naturally use to receive energy and messaging.
Get to know the different kinds of clair by checking my previous blog post ‘Time to Meet the Clairs’.
Creative Tips
Just like in your psychic development tips, here are some artwork creation tips:
Keep an open mind - don’t dismiss or let logic take control
Observe - don’t judge what comes in, just receive
Document - keep a journal of your experiences and try to include details, in a journal or in your artwork or both.
